This is why mental illness education is SO important, people.

This was posted as a comment on a Facebook post a friend made after it came out that the reason Roseanne supposedly made the tweet that imploded the reboot of her show was because she was on Ambien. Now, if you’re not aware of Ambien or have heard of it but don’t know exactly what it does, it’s a sleep aid designed to help those of us who (like myself) have chronic insomnia. According to, it also has the following potential side effects:

This medicine may cause you to do things while you are still asleep that you may not remember the next morning. It is possible you could drive a car, sleepwalk, have sex, make phone calls, or prepare and eat food while you are asleep or not fully awake. Tell your doctor right away if you learn that this has happened.

Now, I suffer from chronic insomnia myself and because I’m afraid of getting addicted to sleeping pills, when I can’t sleep for several nights in a row, I generally take a big ol’ swig of Nyquil which puts me out in about half an hour. But I would never deny a person who can’t sleep, who’s body is so exhausted they can’t function but somehow just cannot seem to fall asleep no matter what they do, the sweet sweet relief that sleeping pills offer.

I also take antidepressants and Celebrex, which allows me to live a mostly functional life. And you can take my medications away from me when you pry them out of my cold dead hands. I’m so TIRED of being told that I just need to be stronger (mentally, physically and emotionally) and that if I weren’t such a little snowflake, I wouldn’t be depressed in the first place. Or that I’d be able to find a way to work around it and not take the drugs at all.

I literally can’t freaking even. It’s opinions like these that make it harder to be a person who is mentally ill and makes seeking help harder.
