A journey of 1,350 miles starts with a single step

(This is kind of obligatory, I think. LOL)

Because it is a new year and I like to set challenges for myself,  I have decided that I am going to walk (figuratively, I think is the right word. Not sure, honestly.) to Mordor, a distance of about 1,350 miles. It took Sam and Frodo about 6 mos to get there…we’ll see how long it takes me.

I’m using this calculation by a guy called Mattsawizard as my guide. So stage one, from Hobbiton to the Prancing Pony in Bree is about 40 miles. I’m giving myself from now until Friday to walk that far. I’ll be keeping track in my fitness journal of how many miles I walk each day, with the numbers provided by my Fitbit (which I keep in my pocket at work since we’re not allowed to wear watches).

::edit:: Just for giggles, on Tuesdays and Thursdays I’ll be adding in Darebee’s Ithilien Ranger workout.

  1. I walked to the office with my eldest daughter in tow last Friday – only 3 miles each way. We chatted about perhaps doing it every Friday – it would be a good way to get us both moving (and to spend some time together, chattering while walking).
