If you don’t know who Logan Paul is, let me explain. No…there is too much. Let me sum up. He is one half of the infamously douchey Paul brothers (the other being his younger brother Jake).
He, as do almost every single one of us, made New Year’s resolutions. One of which included “going gay for a month” which of course he would document on his vlog channel.
Now…if you ARE gay, I don’t have a problem with it. You live your fabulous life and do you, boo. Because there is infinite diversity in infinite combinations.
What I do have a problem with is an “influencer” (I don’t know who, exactly, he is influencing but Google tells me he is an “influencer”, whatever the hell that means) who decides to essentially mock the struggle of being gay. As with any other sexuality, being gay is not always fun. It’s historically been hard as hell and in many ways, still is. Simply because there is a segment of the population out there that sees it as “deviant” or “abnormal” (which it most certainly is not).
When I read this article, I was annoyed and (on the behalf of gays everywhere even though I am straight) offended. Because ‘going gay for a month’ just seems so dismissive of what it is to be gay right now in America. Or any country, really. It’s so stupid I can’t even conceive of how he thought that this would be an OK thing to do.
Which, given the things he’s done in the past (the suicide forest vlog, which was almost immediately taken down and then apologized for as well as sleeping with his brother’s girlfriend immediately after they broke up and then bragging about it, comes to mind), doesn’t really surprise me. I’m sure this is exactly the kind of thing he would think was OK and I really hope, due to the backlash, he just doesn’t do it. For the sake of not just the entire gay community but for the kids who watch his videos and idolize him, copying the dumb things he does for those sweet, sweet Youtube dollars.
Pass the tequila.
